Black Diamond Equipment® is voluntarily replacing a batch of Ascension Nylon Climbing Skins produced from January to March 2021.
A particular batch manufactured during the first quarter of 2021 appears to have glue that fails prematurely. BD is a global innovator in climbing, skiing and mountain sports equipment and the following batches of Nylon climbing skins to not meet their quality standards due to a glue-to-plush bond issue causing accelerated glue failure during use. Black Diamond will replace all affected skins, either with a replacement of the Ascension Nylon Climbing Skins or a substitution with its GlideLite Mohair Mix Climbing Skins.
If you bought a new pair of Ascension nylon climbing skins this season your pair could be one of the compromised batch. To determine that check the date code on the skins to see if it matches one of the affected models (below). Look at the metal ring holding the black rubber tail strap. On the same side as the glue there is a 4-digit code stamped into the black aluminum tail hardware.
