| OR Blog: Rottefella NTN Freeride Updated |
|
Not to be ignored in the wake of Rottefella’s release of the Freedom binding, the NTN Freeride is getting updated as well. First, there is a new mounting plate that matches the mounting pattern of the new Freedom, which gives it a wider footprint. The new plate is also made of a highly durable plastic, which has been proven by years of use in their nordic skiing bindings, rather than metal, and it is tapered up slightly on the ends. Scarpa USA CEO Kim Miller explains the changes, “We wanted to give the binding a bigger footprint that would work better with a wider variety of skiers. The tapered ends allow the ski to flex more naturally underfoot while avoiding the dead spot created by the previous metal plate.”
Also new for next year, the cartridges for the NTN Freeride will only be available in two colors, blue and green. Consumer demand for the super stiff red and super soft white cartridges was low. All types of skiers can be accommodated with the two different cartridges when combined with the multitude of settings available with the NTN. Also, says Miller, “Having only two cartridges simplifies sales for retailers.” Note: The holes from the original NTN mounting plate will not interfere with new hole configuration as long as the mount is moved 1 cm in either direction. See last photograph.
Note: The pink binding plate pictured is the riser version with an additional 10mm height. The standard low-profile binding plate is the same color and material without the extra rise.
