It was another beautiful day at Grand Targhee Resort, located just west of the famed Grand Teton. Over 40 adult competitors descended upon the day one venue to test their telemark skills against the best in the world.
Ideal conditions for a competition included clear skies, no wind, and snow that was slightly firm with some leftover soft from the past storm cycle. “Everyone rose to the occasion with big line scores,” said USTSA Freeskiing Director J.T. Robinson. “I was buzzing with excitement with how good everyone was skiing today.”
Competitors were having a hard time getting through the venue’s first section in run one but learned how to shut it down and hit their technical lines by their second attempt.
Highlights included rookie competitor Elliot Mink qualifying 2nd in his debut event, sticking a highly technical entrance into the venue with impressive fast turns and agility. Bevan Waite from California also set the tone by sending some big airs which spurred the rest of field to go bigger and bigger.
